North Central (Farmersburg) Strikes Out Boone Grove in 2A Championship
North Central’s defense led the way to the Ladybird’s first Softball State Title as they defeated Boone Grove in the 2A Championship Game.
Junior pitcher Katelynn Kennedy had a dominant performance on the mound, hurling a shutout and striking out a record setting 14 batters. On the year, Kennedy finished with a record of 23-1 with an ERA below 1.00.
While the defense was the backbone of the Ladybird’s victory, the offense set the tone early for Coach Erica Arnold’s squad. North Central jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Kennedy, who had an all-around performance for the Ladybirds, scored on junior Mia McCoskey’s double.
North Central never looked back after that. Kennedy only surrendered three hits over the course of the game, and the Ladybirds added on two insurance runs in the fifth inning to stay comfortably in the driver’s seat. The North Central Ladybirds wrapped up their season with a record of 27-4.
It was Boone Grove’s first appearance in the State Softball Finals. The Wolves, coached by Ron Saunders, finished their State Runner-Up season 24-4.
