Led by freshmen standout Ramiah Elliott, North Central of Indianapolis took home its third state championship in school history and first since 1987.

The Panthers tallied 75 points to outdistance runner-up Warren Central’s 52 points. Mark Haste was the Panthers coach. Hamilton Southeastern placed third with 48, West Lafayette was fourth with 42 and Zionsville rounded out the top five with 30 points.

Elliott took home a total of four state titles before helping to hoist the team trophy at the end of the night. She was a member of the record-setting 4x400 meter team, the 4x100 meter relay team, as well as taking the individual crown in the 200 and 400 meter races.

Chanler Robinson did her part by taking the first place medal in the 100 meter hurdles. Senior Alyssa-Simone Robinson and juniors Skylynn Blue-Williams and Jadeyn Maddox played a huge role to help secure the relay championships.

The rest of tonight’s events were highlighted with a new state meet record and a series of repeat champions.

Pike senior Elizabeth Stanhope ended her career by becoming the state record holder in the 800 meter race posting a time of 2:06.62 breaking the previous record set in 2013 of 2:07.91.

Kennedy Drish of Hamilton Southeastern bookended her career by winning the pole vault for the third consecutive year clearing 12-9. Another three-year consecutive championship came from Shelby Tyler of Noblesville who took home the top prize in the high jump competition at 5-9. Long jumper Prommyse Hoosier of Warren Central and the West Lafayette’s 3200 meter relay team’s repeated as champions in their respective events.

By sweeping both boys and girls titles this year, North Central became the fifth school to do so and first since Warren Central accomplished it in 2007.

Emma May Tate of West Lafayette High School Takes Home Mental Attitude Award
Members of the IHSAA Executive Committee named Emma Tate of West Lafayette High School as the winner of this year’s Mental Attitude Award in Girls Track and Field.

A member of the 2018 and 2019 State Championship 3200 meter relay team, Emma has been a prolific student-athlete for the Red Devils. A 10-time individual and relay Hoosier Conference and Sectional champion, Tate has qualified for seven events at the Track and Field State Finals in her career and has been awarded All-State Honors four times. Tate also ran Cross Country all four years in her high school career, as well as being a member of the basketball (9) and swim teams (10, 11) for the Red Devils.

Outside of athletics, Emma is a member of the National Honors Society, the German Club, and the VISTA Club. She has volunteered her time with the Purdue Area Track Club Coaching staff as well as helping with the Elementary Track and Field Program for four years.

The daughter of Curtis and Jull Tate of West Lafayette, Emma will attend Purdue University next fall to study Biology and will run Track and Cross Country for the Boilermakers.

The IHSAA Executive Committee, on behalf of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, presented a $1,000 scholarship to West Lafayette High School in the name of Emma May Tate.
