IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (11/18/24)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
I recently read a surprising article about the history of the NFL draft. It stated that only two players, taken with the first and second pick in the same year, have been inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Those two players are John Elway and Eric Dickerson.
The NFL teams spend an enormous amount of money on its scouting and staff to rate and rank footballs players they may look to draft. You might expect that the top 2-3 of each year would be Hall of Famers. But that is not the case.
Why, you might ask? I would tell you that those scouts see certain aspects of the football players, but they don't always understand their heart, their drive and even their upside potential. Many athletes are still improving when they enter the professional ranks, just like you might be improving right now.
You may not end up playing a professional sport, but you can exceed the expectations of others. Never let others categorize you or set limits to what you might achieve. Work harder and smarter than those you compete against!
