IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (11/11/24)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

As a student-athlete, during practice and games, you will likely try to do some things to impress your coach and build their confidence in you.  What you may not realize is that much of the time, it is the things that you do not do that may impress your coaches the most.

For example, in football, it might be playing penalty free or missing a block/tackle.  In basketball, it might be not taking bad shots or not missing a block out.  In baseball/softball, it might be never missing the cut off person or swinging at bad pitches.  There are so many scenarios where doing nothing is more valuable than trying to do too much.

As you think about your sport, I am sure you know two or three things immediately that are key to your team and your success.  Those are the things that could lead to you receiving more playing time.

Sometimes it is the things that you don't do that your team needs the most!
