IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (10/21/24)

"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"

Most high school student-athletes practice like they play.  What does that mean?  It means that they give the same effort and attention in practice as they do for game day.

Do you give 100% effort at effort at practice?  On every team, there are student-athletes who don't practice hard and think that they will play at their peak performance for the games or matches.  Unfortunately, those athletes are fooling themselves and no one else.

You might be able to turn on more effort at times during the game, but it won't be sustainable if you haven't kept that level of effort during practice.

The short-term effect (from practicing at a decreased effort) is that you and your team will lose some games that you shouldn't lose.  The long-term effect is that you will not reach your maximum ability as an athlete.  That is the bottom line.

On the sports field and in life, practice like you will play.  Every practice, every class, every day at work.
