IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (1/27/25)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
Athletes of all ages are striving to get better. In today's world, it is more common than ever to find a high school athlete working with a personal trainer.
My father (a former Hall of Fame basketball coach and administrator) always preached that your practice habits shape your performance. When it comes right down to the bare facts, practice has always been the key to "getting better."
How can you enhance your practice time? Here are a few suggestions:
- Always work on the fundamentals of your sport
- It is not how long you work, but how hard you work during your practice time
- Repetition can be boring, but realize that you are forming good practice habits
- Chart your progress toward your goals so you can see improvement
Regardless of who you work with or if you are doing things on your own, in the end, those who work the hardest will end up performing to the best of their capabilities!
