Eighteen Make Up IHSAA Student Advisory Committee
Eighteen high school student-athletes from across Indiana have been chosen to represent the 2009-10 IHSAA Student Advisory Committee (SAC) which begins its ninth year this fall.
The IHSAA recognizes the importance of an exchange of ideas with those most directly affected and this group of students serves as a voice to the Association staff while also gaining hands-on experience with the organization that works to serve their needs.

The SAC represents the entire IHSAA membership of 411 schools, and its structure mirrors that of the IHSAA Board of Directors in class, district, and diversity. Individuals who attend the IHSAA Student Leadership Conference each June are chosen by IHSAA staff, the Board of Directors and current SAC members.
The SAC meets four times annually – twice each semester – and is responsible for hosting meetings with student peers at the upcoming Fall Area Principals Meetings; assisting with the awards ceremonies at IHSAA state championship events throughout the school year and; planning and administering the annual IHSAA Student Leadership Conference in June.
One of the SAC’s newest functions includes a state-wide joint effort with IHSAA corporate sponsor Red Gold to determine which schools promote and demonstrate sportsmanship and student leadership most effectively. Two schools from a list of finalists in each season (fall, winter and spring) will receive a $2,000 cash award from Red Gold.
The students also will begin to create multiple public service announcements addressing good sporting behavior which will be utilized during 2009-10 state championships events.
The following statement was formulated by the first Student Advisory Committee in 2001 outlining its role as an IHSAA advisory group:
The Student Advisory Committee is a diverse, dynamic group of student-athletes focused on providing a means of education and communication for its constituency. The group serves as a conduit between student-athletes, administrators, and the Executive Committee of the IHSAA. The Student Advisory Committee promotes all standing ideals of the IHSAA, including leadership, sportsmanship and integrity.
