Posted: June 10, 2022

Jenna Donohoo had three hits and scored three runs, while teammate Karsyn Flowers homered and drove in three runs to lead Tecumseh to an 11-5 victory of South Central in the Class 1A championship game.

The top-ranked Braves (29-5) thus claimed their fourth state title in their 10th appearance in the state finals. It’s also the school’s second state title of the school year as the school’s girls basketball team claimed the 1A championship during the winter sports season.

Tecumseh, coached by Gordon Wood, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first as Flowers slammed a two-run homer. After the Satellites tied the game with three runs in the second, the Braves came back with two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to lock up the win.

Donohoo broke the tie in the fourth with an RBI single before Flowers doubled her in. Alena Holder had four RBIs in the game for the winners.

Ashtyn Green (18-4) picked up the victory in the circle.

Aubrey Hilgli led South Central with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. She also scored twice.

The Satellites, coached by Tony Wallace, finished 23-7.

South Central’s Lauren Bowmar Earns Mental Attitude Award
At the conclusion of the game, Lauren Bowmar of South Central Jr-Sr High School was announced as the recipient of the Mental Attitude Award for Class 1A Softball.

The award is annually presented to a senior participant in the state finals who best demonstrates mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability and is nominated by her principal and coach.

Besides being an excellent student carrying a 3.8 GPA, Bowmar is a three-sport athlete earning varsity letters in softball, basketball and volleyball for the Satellites. She is a two-time captain and was twice named an All-County and All-Conference player in softball. She also captained South Central’s 26-1 girls basketball team last winter. She has also been involved in multiple community service and volunteer projects on top of working a part-time job.

Bowmar is the first South Central student-athlete to receive an IHSAA mental attitude award.

Lauren is the daughter of Toby and Angela Bowmar of Union Mills, IN and will attend North Central College for Business in the fall while continuing her softball career.

Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance presented a $1,000 scholarship to South Central Jr-Sr High School in the name of Lauren Bowmar.
