Bloomington South's Schneider Repeats in Singles, Park Tudor Doubles Team Crowned
Bloomington South’s Ronnie Schneider rallied from a set down to win the singles state title, and the Park Tudor doubles team, consisting of Sam Geier and Dan Rayl, captured the doubles crown during the IHSAA Individual State Finals for Boys Tennis in Indianapolis.
Schneider (23-0) trailed Park Tudor senior Brendan Tannenbaum after the first set but came back to force a third and went on to capture his second consecutive singles state championship, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Schneider became the first repeat singles champ since 1988 when Carmel’s Rick Witsken won his second in a row. It was also the second straight perfect season for the junior who finished 26-0 one year ago. Tannenbaum (25-4) came up short but his doubles teammates secured a championship for themselves.
Geier, a senior, and Rayl, a freshman, made quick work of Drew Hussung and Jarret Oldham (25-2) taking out the Floyd Central duo in 56 minutes, 6-3, 6-1. The Park Tudor team finished 20-1 on the year and became the third partners from their school and first since 1998 to carry away the state doubles honor.
