IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (2/20/23)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
If you are a true competitor, and most athletes are, it is always disappointing to be on the losing end of the score. But seasoned athletes and coaches know that you can take away many positives from a loss, even though it sometimes takes a day or two to get over it.
Losing is normal. Professional teams, college teams and high school teams cannot participate in their sport without experiencing some losses. We know that as a fact.
The most prominent message from veteran coaches and athletes in regard to losing is this: Don't give up, give yourself another chance, and another. Hard work, perseverance and self-belief lead to success and progress. That is what you are looking for after a tough loss. Put the loss in the review mirror.
Next time you find yourself or your team coming up short, think about this quote from former NBA player and coach Pat Riley. "You have no choices about how you lose, but you do have choices about how you come back and prepare to win again."
