Emma Miller’s goal on a penalty kick provided the winning goal for Park Tudor in a 2-1 victory over Lafayette Central’s Catholic in the girls Class 1-A state championship game.

Miller’s goal in the 55th minute came after LCC goalkeeper Kate Hutzel had been given a yellow card on a save of Park Tudor’s Colina Miroff and gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

The victory gave second-ranked Park Tudor, guided by first-year coach John Simmonds, its first state championship in girls soccer in school history. Central Catholic, which came in ranked No. 1 and on a 14-game winning streak, and Park Tudor were both making first appearances in the state championship game.

Park Tudor (22-2) scored in the first minute as Sarah Hartman came up with a rebound on a shot by teammate Katie Hur in front of Hutzel for a 1-0 lead.

Central Catholic, coached by Bill Kerr, broke through late on a goal by Hailey Fallen in the 79th minute. Sophmore Carsyn Cherry recorded an assist. The Knights finished 19-3-1.

Lauren Hack of Lafayette Central Catholic earns Mental Attitude Award 
Lauren Hack of Lafayette Central Catholic High School was named the winner of the Mental Attitude Award, sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, for Girls Class A Soccer by members of the IHSAA Executive Committee.

The senior Knight and four-year letter-winner is the team captain for Lafayette Central Catholic. Hack received the United Soccer Coaches Senior Excellence Award. Lauren also excels in the classroom, where she is ranked 10th in her class of 69 students. She is an active member as Student Body and Student Council President, Secretary of the National Honor Society, Theater, Yearbook, Music Ministry, and multiple other organizations. Lauren has also helped out with Distinguished Young Women, 4-H as a 10-year member, and Chic-Fil-A Leadership Academy. She has been awarded the Bishop Bennett Award, Outstanding Service Award, and recognized as Outstanding Band Student for three years.

The daughter of John and Stacey Hack of Lafayette, Lauren plans to attend Indiana University to pursue a degree in Biology.

The IHSAA Executive Committee, on behalf of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, will award a scholarship for $1,000 to Lafayette Central Catholic High School in the name of Lauren Hack.  Since 1989, almost $900,000 in college scholarships has been presented to deserving high school students in Indiana.
