Posted: June 8, 2013

In a matchup of the last two Class A state champions, Lakewood Park Christian earned its second straight Class A softball state championship by defeating Tecumseh 10-3 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

The Panthers wasted no time, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.  A double by junior Jaclyn Delagrange scored senior teammate Courtney Sliger followed by another double, this time by senior Suzanne Grimm scored Delagrange.

The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Lakewood Park picked up two more quick runs as senior Nicole Faur and junior Hannah Priskorn scored for the Panthers.  The gap widened in the fifth inning as Lakewood Park tacked on four more on scores from Grimm, sophomore Hannah Sutton, Faur, and Priskorn.

Tecumseh made a late push in the top of the seventh inning, scoring three runs after back-to-back doubles by sophomore MaKenzie Duncan and freshman Hannah Patterson.  Senior Madison Oxley was brought in by a single from junior Tiffany Summers.

Summers led the Braves with three hits but also suffered the loss on the mound.  Lakewood Park sophomore Brooke Herendeen, Grimm, junior Mikeila Boroff, and junior Kelsey Mosley each had two hits.  Boroff was credited with the win, wrapping up 27-2 year.

David Carnahan’s Lakewood Park squad finishes the season with a 29-2 record, while head coach Gordon Wood led the Tecumseh Braves to a 21-8 record. Tecumseh had defeated Lakewood Park for the 2011 state championship.
