Indianapolis Bishop Chatard Turns the Tables in 3A Championship Match

Posted: November 3, 2012

Indianapolis Bishop Chatard emerged from a fifth set and turned the tables on Yorktown to win the Class 3A state championship match at Worthen Arena.

The No. 3 Trojans (32-7) won the opening and third sets before breaking free from four tie scores in the decisive frame to win, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17, 22-25, 15-12. It was the school’s second 3A volleyball championship to go along with the 2004 trophy. Top-ranked Yorktown had swept last year’s championship meeting on this court between the two squads and also took a 2-0 decision back on Aug. 25. Nick Wolf was the Trojans’ coach.

Chatard’s Anna Logan led all players with 20 kills in the match followed by Yorktown’s Nikki Box with 17. Hannah Gardner helped the Chatard cause with 14 kills of her own.

Yorktown (35-4), coached by Stephanie Bloom, was trying to become the third Delaware County team to win a title on the day. Cowan (Class A) and Wapahani (2A) had both won their preceding matches.
