IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (9/25/23)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
Participating in a team sport has many requirements, but number one should be putting the team before self in everything you do. If you are looking for all the attention and/or glory, it just won't always happen for you.
You must be happy for others' accomplishments, sometimes take a back seat to other teammates, and know you may not always get the credit you think you have earned or deserved.
From time to time, it may be your day. You may be the main contributor, you might be the one scoring the winning shot, touchdown, goal, run etc.--but understand that it won't always be that way.
In any team sport, being the best possible teammate should always be your #1 goal. If you are looking for anything else, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
You will win as a team or lose as team. Wins or losses might be attributed to a few team members, but it is a collective effort that really matters and will ultimately determine the outcome!
