"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
This past weekend, the Yale men's basketball team traveled to Spokane, WA for the NCAA tournament. The cheerleaders accompanied them, but the school's pep band was unable to attend.
The University of Idaho's band volunteered to represent Yale--so they learned the Yale fight song, put on Yale t-shirts and cheered like crazy for the Yale team. What a display of sportsmanship! They traveled 90 miles to play for a team they had never met. The team said the pep band made a difference in helping the atmosphere and crowd, as Yale (a 13-seed) upset Auburn (a 4-seed).
As you think of sportsmanship at your school, remember all the other people who play a critical role in allowing the athletic departments to function. They are often overlooked and often make sacrifices that very few realize. Make the effort to acknowledge and thank all those around you who make your games run smoothly.
Sportsmanship can be demonstrated in many ways--not just on the court or field of play!
