IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (2/26/24)
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
The dictionary definition of confidence is "a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities."
You probably play with or against other student-athletes who display confidence. You may be in the classroom with peers who display confidence in one subject or another.
Would others describe you as confident in school or on the athletic field? How do you build it, maintain it or get it back once you have doubted it?
Confidence comes and builds after you have put in the hard work over time. The work may become easier, but it doesn't mean you put less time in. You will usually believe in yourself after others have told you they have confidence in you. Once you have it you must work to keep it!
Norman Vincent Peele's quote about confidence is one that all aspiring student-athletes should take to heart. "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy."
