IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week
"Promoting Education Based Athletics in Indiana"
While watching college and pro football on television this past weekend, I could not help but notice how many games came down to the wire, and how crucial mistakes turned the game around and gave the opposition a big advantage.
This got me thinking. In all sports, there is a fine line between playing aggressively and playing under control. What is more important? Both are important as long as you don't let your aggressiveness lead to bad decisions.
Playing under control while being aggressive should be part of your daily practice routine. Pretend from time to time that the game is on the line and the final seconds are ticking down. Then think about the fundamentals that will make you and your team successful.
Games and matches will become testy and emotional down the wire. When the game is on the line and everyone is watching, there is no room for a mistake or penalty. Focus on the task at hand and don't let the outside noise distract you!
