IHSAA Tip of the Week for 10-10-22

"Promoting Education-Based Athletics in Indiana"

This past week, New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, hit his 62nd home run of the season.  He broke the American League single-season record of 61 held by Roger Maris, who broke the previous record set by the great Babe Ruth.

We all know that records are made to be broken.  Regardless of the sport, athletes are getting better and better.  It is rare for any record to last a long time.  This is one of the exceptions as Maris held it for 50 years.

Most record holders will tell you that no records are set by the individual alone.  It has been a team effort behind the support of trainers, coaches, teammates and parents.

This was evident in watching Judge at home plate after his 62nd blast.  After rounding the bases and touching home plate, his team was waiting for him, and he took the time to give each teammate and coach an individual high five and hug.  In a moment when he could have celebrated this phenomenal achievement by himself, he shared this incredible moment with others who helped make it possible.

Whether you become a record holder in your sport is irrelevant.  Share your special moments with those who have helped you get there.  Enjoy those special times!
