Emily Moore won two events to claim overall honors and top-ranked Crown Point finished in the top two in each event to secure the team championship during the 50th Annual IHSAA Gymnastics State Finals at Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University.

Moore, a Columbus North senior, repeated as state champion on the balance beam scoring a 9.825 and also won the floor exercise competition with a 9.725. She added a fifth place tie on the vault (9.550) and was 12th on the uneven bars (9.175). Moore's total of 38.275 points won the all-around title edging Elly Kiran of Crown Point who finished with 37.675. Moore is the fifth Columbus North gymnast to win the overall crown most recently won by Claire Thompson in 2016.

For Crown Point, the sophomore Kiran (9.475) placed third and led the way as three Bulldogs finished in the top eight of the balance beam, the team's final routine to close the meet which also secured the championship. Besides Kiran, juniors Charlotte Annes (9.225) and Ysabel Maunes (9.175) tied for fifth and eighth, respectively. Senior Makayla Neal added to the cause with a second place finish in the vault (9.725) and took sixth in the uneven bars (9.350).

With coach Ami Pysh guiding the team, the Bulldogs took top honors in the beam and finished second in the vault, bars and floor exercise to capture the school's first gymnastics state title. It was also Crown Point's second state championship of the winter season after the wrestling team captured top honors on Feb. 19.

The Bulldogs' 111.475 points bested third-ranked Homestead with 110.350, and second-ranked defending champion Valparaiso with 110.075.

Haiven Gipson, a Harrison (West Lafayette) senior, scored a third consecutive state championship in the vault with a 9.85. She became the second individual to win the event three times and just the fifth three-time champion in state tournament history in any event.

Angola senior Ashtyn Evans won her second straight crown in the uneven bars with a 9.575 performance.

Richmond's Elizabeth Ruger named Mildred Ball Mental Attitude Award Winner
Following the event, members of the IHSAA Executive Committee named Elizabeth Ruger of Richmond High School as the recipient of the Mildred M. Ball Mental Attitude Award.

The award is presented annually to a senior participant in the state finals who has best demonstrated mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in gymnastics.

She is the daughter of Stacy Reece of Richmond, Indiana, and plans to pursue studies in Anthropology at DePauw University after graduation.

The IHSAA Executive Committee, on behalf of Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, presented $1,000 to Richmond High School's general scholarship fund in the name of Elizabeth Ruger.

The mental attitude award is named in honor of the former IHSAA assistant commissioner who served the Association from 1977 to 1997. During her career, Mildred Ball administered the state gymnastics tournament among other sports and also oversaw the licensing and training of all contest officials in the state of Indiana.
