Avon Battles to a 1-0 Overtime Victory over Fishers
Fishers and Avon each made school history by advancing to this year’s soccer state finals championship game for the first time at IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium.
After both teams went scoreless through regulation play, Avon got on the board thanks to a Cassidy Blacha goal in the 86th minute. Blacha was dangerous all day with a game high six shots on goal. Hope Van Wagner fed Blacha on the play and the goal would be all the Orioles needed through the remainder of extra time to take home their first state trophy.
Avon goalkeeper junior Kelsey Dossey saved seven shots en route to a state finals shutout. Fishers netminder Morgan Hammon had an impressive day as well, ending with 10 saves.
Eric Nance coached his Orioles squad to an 18-2-3 record while Tigers coach Ben Beasley led his squad to a record of 16-3-3.
