"Promoting education based athletics in Indiana"
From time to time I have trouble coming up with the ideal weekly tip, but this week it's shouting out at me in a very positive way. My father passed away this past week, and I can't think of anything more appropriate than honoring him.
My dad was a 21 year high school basketball coach and an athletic director for 27. He touched many athletes, students, teachers, administrators and coaches throughout his career. The influence he had on his family will live on forever. Forget his 327 victories as a basketball coach and his 41 IHSAA State Championships as an athletic director at Carmel High. His life was defined by his character.
Words will never do him justice, but many come to mind. Kind, sincere, caring, loving, humble, composed, leader, Dad, and Pappa, just to name a few. Ask his friends, former players and athletes of all sports to chime in, and I'm sure they could come up with many more.
I've always said that sports are short term and what you learn from them is why they are so important. My dad used his lifetime of sports experience to enhance the life of those that he came across. I learned by walking by his side!
